Concha Ceanothus is of the oldest and most spectacular of the Ceanothus cultivars. It’s likely a hybrid of Ceanothus impressus and Ceanothus papillosus var. roweanus, both of which are native to the central coast area. This plant is often short lived when grown outside the central coast. It makes a gorgeous shrub with high pollinator value. It is evergreen, with small, dark green leaves and a magnificent floral display of rich blue blossoms. It may eventually get 8 ft tall by 10 ft wide but is usually 6 x 6 ft. Can be trained as a small tree or left as a multi-trunked shrub. Plant in full sun for maximum flower display starting in late winter. Don’t water once established or it will be short lived. Deer may nibble it.
