This native perennial with white to pink candy-striped flowers seeks shady, moist conditions. This cultivar was sourced in Sonoma and has particularly pink flowers. Related to Miner’s Lettuce (Claytonia perfoliata), Candy Flower produces dark green, succulent, edible leaves in low rosettes. It blooms over a long period between February and August and will frequently reseed. About 2 ft tall when in flower. A sweet, spreading, low groundcover for a shady area with regular moisture. It thrives in cool weather and acid forest soil. A charming addition to the forest garden, it combines beautifully with ferns, wild ginger and false Solomon’s seal.
