Chalk Dudleya gets its name and look from its beautiful rosette of silvery-white leaves, each coated in a white powder that give the plant it’s ethereal appearance. Plant in well draining soil, cactus mix, or even in pure decomposed granite, in a protected but sunny microclimate. When planting in the ground, avoid overhead irrigation and place the plant at a slight angle to prevent water from collecting in the rosette. Also grows well in clay containers. In spring to early summer, it will send out 1 to 2 foot tall, yellow flowers atop dramatic red stalks, which will last a few months. Gets 18–24” wide and may eventually branch into a clump. Useful and very dramatic in containers. Likes a protected and sunny microclimate where cold air and winter wet can drain away.
