Galvezia speciosa ‘Firecracker’, Firecracker Island Snapdragon

An evergreen subshrub from the Channel Islands, Galvezia is long-blooming with showy, deep-red flowers that are highly attractive to hummingbirds. The cultivar ‘Firecracker’ was selected by Tree of Life Nursery for its compact habit, growing 2-3 ft tall and 3-5 ft wide, with fuzzy, pale green leaves and larger, red, snapdragon-like flowers.
Island Snapdragon is easy and fast growing. It will grow in full sun to light shade, afternoon shade is needed in hotter inland sites. It is drought tolerant once established but will do better with occasional summer water. It likes rocky slopes and seaside conditions and will tolerate a variety of soils but needs excellent drainage.
