Grindelia stricta var. platyphylla, Coastal Gumplant

Out of stock

Gumplants are tough and easy plants in garden culture and produce cheery yellow blooms during the dry summer season. Each flower bud is protected by a sticky white gum, hence the common name. Leaves are spoon shaped, and glossy medium green. Old flowering stalks can be cut back, and sometimes the whole plant needs to be pruned back to keep a neat appearance. This variety is more often seen at the coast, where it takes full sun and low water. It has a sprawling habit and gets about 1-2 ft. high with a spread of 6–8 ft. wide. Deer resistant. Native bees love it. If you have a spot where nothing seems to grow, this is the plant to try! Tough and beautiful.
