The cultivar Silver Carpet is one of the best native California groundcovers for sandy or fast-draining soil. Very low growing and compact, staying under a foot high but spreading to 3 to 4 ft. wide. It has beautiful silver foliage and 1 inch lavender-pink daisies with yellow centers that last from summer through fall.
This drought-tolerant plant thrives in full sun even in hotter inland conditions, where occasional watering helps to keep it looking good, and it tolerates wind and even some salt spray in coastal areas. It will grow in both sandy and clay soils, and is a fine choice for containers or for trailing over rocks or down a slope. Keep it lightly pruned for best appearance. Deer resistant.
Also sold under the name Corethrogyne filaginifolia.
