The flowers of this native perennial penstemon are an intense purple-blue and very profuse. Very showy in spring; ideal when planted with poppies and other wildflowers. Tolerates average garden water and most soils. Very attractive to pollinators. Usually gets a foot tall and 2 feet wide; needs full sun, good drainage. Stems will get woody after a couple of years. If conditions are right, it can be long-lived. Sun: part sun to full. Water infrequently to occasionally once established. Likes well drained soils. Deadhead once blooming stops for a second floral show.
