Salmonberry is a deciduous shrub known for its large, showy, pink to reddish-purple flowers and edible, slightly tart, orange-red berries that are enjoyed by wildlife and humans. It thrives in moist, shady to sunny areas like stream banks and forest edges, forming dense thickets and supporting pollinators and birds. The plant grows from 3-10 feet tall, with prickly stems and trifoliate (three-part) leaves with toothed edges. Tolerates full sun to full shade but does best in dappled shade.
