Sidalcea calycosa ssp. rhizomata, Pt. Reyes Checkerbloom

Out of stock

Point Reyes Checkerbloom is a rare native perennial herb that grows in moist habitats at the Point Reyes National Seashore. Stems can reach 3 ft and tend to sprawl sideways, making it a great choice as a groundcover, atop a wall or cascading from a container. Delicate, pale pink, hollyhock-like blooms typical of the Mallow Family appear in spring and may linger into fall. Does well in full sun on the coast but needs partial shade in hotter inland gardens. It tends to grow naturally in marshes and wet places so give it a modest amount of water through the summer dry months.

It is a host plant for Common Checkered Skippers, Gray Hairstreaks, and West Coast Lady Butterflies.
